Long before women were commonly seen in aviation, Melody Millicent Danquah made history as the first Ghanaian woman to qualify as a pilot. Born in the Gold Coast in 1937, Danquah developed an interest in flying at a young age. On 6 March 1964, Ghana’s Independence Day, Melody Millicent Danquah was awarded her pilot’s wings after successfully completing her training.
