UPDATE!! Eventually she stopped wearing it and he noticed. She said it pinches so she only wears it on special occasions and he told her she can stop wearing it entirely if she wants. He apparently also hated it and his mother’s insistence made him doubt and second guess himself. She told him she also hated it and they shared a laugh. He had already started saving for a new ring for her that she would actually like. They are doing well

My mom and I had a fun day of shopping and I ended up trying rings on. I left and she immediately called him and he bought it that day! It’s ok to listen to your ladies guys. It’s on her body, no one else’s.

I’m a firm believer: If it’s the right partner, it will be the right ring. Everything about this story is screaming wrong partner. This girl’s MIL is going to run her entire life. She needs to tell her husband she hates it, and demand they return/sell it, and use the money to purchase a ring she loves. If he refuses she needs to leave.

Tell him matter of factly that after you’re married you will not be wearing the ring because it snags and triggers your sensory issues. Tell him how much you appreciate him buying something that he thinks will last and ask him if he’d like to return it now to use save money and get you a less expensive ring. Put it towards a house, etc. If he’s truly your guy he will understand. If he’s worried about his mom’s feelings, you may need to reconsider who you are marrying.
