Guys, here is your chance to ask us ladies a question and gives us a chance to answer. The question can be of any topic, but let’s keep it respectful. In the past few months, I’ve been unapologetically sharing my journey of being unmarried, single, and childfree in my 40s. The response has been a mix of incredible support and, unfortunately, some unwarranted criticism. Apparently, using power tools and wearing jeans in a video led to being labeled ‘too masculine.’ People tell me to ignore such comments or disconnect from the online world if it gets too intense. But here’s the thing—I believe it’s crucial to address the issues that bother us and engage in open conversations. It’s perplexing that the ability of a woman to stand on her own and exhibit strength is sometimes misconstrued as being ‘too masculine’ by certain men. This made me wonder if this was true about how men see me and I reached out to guy friends and even those I went on dates with, seeking their perspective. What struck me as amusing is the societal expectation that a woman can only be either feminine or masculine. I proudly embrace both aspects of my identity. I see myself as a fiercely feminine individual who loves wearing dresses, while also being someone who speaks her mind, handles power tools, and builds things independently. I can do things on my own but I also don’t mind receiving help when needed. Now, let’s touch on feminism. I have never really seen myself as a feminist, because I am a bit ‘old fashioned’ in some aspects when it comes to dating, but I think people get confused about what a feminist really is. It’s not about dismissing traditional roles or devaluing homemaking; it’s about advocating for choice and dismantling stereotypes. Feminism empowers women to decide their paths and pursuits without societal constraints. In essence, whether we’re proficient with power tools, culinary maestros, or both, we can transcend labels, embrace diverse choices, and revel in the richness of our individual stories. We are allowed to do both. This video was taken last spring when I visited @thefrontporch.arcata 🫶🏽 thank you for having me! #fyp #womenempowerment
