Baseplate for High-Speed Lines (High-Speed Railway Baseplate) I. Overview of the Baseplate The under-rail baseplate, situated between the rail and the sleeper, is one of the critical components of the track structure and plays an important role in vibration damping within the wheel-rail dynamic system. With the development of heavy-haul railway transport, axle loads have been continuously increasing; as rail sections have progressively become heavier, higher demands have been placed on baseplate performance, requiring baseplates to provide effective vibration damping, high impact resistance, and a long service life. II. Technical Evolution of the Baseplate As train speeds have increased, the requirements for track stability have likewise become more stringent, and the railway track baseplate has undergone four stages of improvement. The earliest type was the welded steel plate baseplate (fabricated by assembling and welding steel plates). Because welded assemblies contain weld seams, their structural integrity is limited, and the presence of weld seams also weakens the mechanical properties of the baseplate. Baseplates made from rolled steel sections, offering good structural integrity and superior mechanical properties, eventually replaced the welded plate type. However, owing to their greater length, rolled section steel baseplates exhibit considerable deformation and severe corrosion; moreover, rolled section products are also unable to meet the requirements of current baseplate structural configurations in terms of production. Attention therefore gradually turned to malleable cast iron baseplates, which offer low deformation and low cost. Since malleable cast iron is produced by subjecting white cast iron to malleabilizing annealing, compared with production processes in which castings are obtained directly in the as-cast condition, this method extends the production cycle and increases production cost. Since its introduction, ductile cast iron (spheroidal graphite cast iron) has attracted considerable attention by virtue of its excellent mechanical properties and good castabili
