The detective is actually using a strategical technique by downplaying the abuse in order to make the suspect feel that their actions are being perceived as being less serious, encouraging them to feel comfortable disclosing the true severity of the crimes, if the detective were to react with a high level of disapproval, the suspect will be reluctant to report the acts to the level of brutality they really are. Also, questioning her about why she went out later to change her into pajamas makes perfect sense. If the suspect cared so much as to ensure she were in proper bed clothes, why wouldn’t she be concerned about the abuse she was enduring? The two actions are inconsistent and it would seem there is more to the story of that detail
