CHINA BUILT A 945-FOOT ELEVATOR ON THE SIDE OF A CLIFF — AND IT CHANGED HOW CHILDREN GET TO SCHOOL. 🇨🇳 For children living deep inside China's Nizhu River Grand Canyon, getting to school used to be an exhausting and dangerous journey. Students from Nizhuhe Village in Yunnan Province once had to navigate steep, narrow mountain trails carved into the cliffs to reach Guanzhai Village Primary School. Some sections were barely wide enough to walk on, and parts of the route required children to climb using their hands. The journey could take more than THREE HOURS. But now, an extraordinary engineering project has transformed their daily commute. A new 288-meter (945-foot) glass-and-steel elevator, known as the Fuyao Ladder, began operating at the Nizhu River Grand Canyon in July 2026. Built directly along the canyon wall, the elevator travels at approximately 5 meters per second, carrying passengers up the massive cliff in less than a minute. It also works alongside an older 268-meter (879-foot) cliffside elevator and an aerial cable car system. Together, these facilities have reduced the children's journey to school from more than three hours to approximately 30 minutes. And there's another remarkable detail: local students and villagers can use the transportation system for FREE, with dedicated passages and priority access for schoolchildren. The two elevators can collectively transport up to 1,200 passengers every hour. What makes this project even more meaningful is that it isn't just about creating an extraordinary tourist attraction. It's about making education more accessible for children who once had to overcome dangerous geographical obstacles just to reach their classrooms. For these students, a trip that once involved hours of climbing through a dangerous canyon has become a much safer journey through the sky. Sometimes, the most impressive engineering achievements aren't just about building something taller or faster. They're about changing people's lives. Would you feel comfortable riding an elevator this high above the ground? 👀 Follow @Astro4space for more incredible discoveries, science, technology, and engineering stories. #China #Engineering #Technology #AmazingEngineering #sciencefiction
