@oscar.hamblin All of these things were true about Oscar, until one day they just weren’t. No true explanation. No real understanding or closure. In fact, we’re actually shamed for caring and questioning what may have happened. We’re supposed to accept that he was a completely different child and changed overnight. We’re supposed to accept that he used to be able to communicate & now he can’t. We’re supposed to accept that he used to follow directions & now he won’t even respond to his own name. We’re supposed to accept that our son will be easy prey to predators for his entire life and not do anything about it. Seriously? Only a country as woke & crooked as America would tell a parent to accept something so bizarre. I won’t claim to know what it is like to lose a child - but I do know how it feels to lose a version of your child that you once knew. I know what it is like to be desperately fighting for my son to respond to the world around him. I’m thankful that most of you won’t understand. And I’m so very sorry for those who do understand. Instead of saving for a potential college fund, we’re saving for a caregiver that will step in when we pass. That’s our reality & I’ll be damned if I don’t try and help our son (+ those like him) thrive by asking the hard questions, demanding answers, and pushing for new treatments. Only 1 week away from our trek to Mumbai, India.
