The only thing I don't 100% agree with is the Shinkansen. Completely understand ppl with big bags need to not block the aisle, but the entire train (not just a car, the train) only has like 10 oversize luggage seats.

hot take, but this is good. traveling is a privilege bc you experience more than the locals do when you travel to japan. they have a right to tax you whatever they feel like for that privilege! anyone complaining about this is just entitled because now they have less spending power to their currency.

I don't understand why this is such a big deal. I always paid the tax in japan as a tourist and I mean when there was a time where I thought about a tax free purchase, the 10% and the hassle to get this back was not worth it to me. Idk.. Are people making bank with this or?

What Europe does is very painful. They check your receipts and you have to have all items on you for them to see. Then you put it in envelope and wait. Many times you do not even get the money back.

No more than 2 power banks are allowed per passenger (each 160Wh or less) Make sure it has a sticker or state the information on the power bank or it will be thrown away, DONT try to hide it in check in baggage or you will be fined or worse and also putting everyone at risk. 🇸🇪💙🇯🇵

I reserved the luggage space when I went and 2 old Japanese ladies moved mine and my sister’s suitcases out of the way to put theirs there and sat at the other end of the carriage. We moved them out again and put theirs so it was sticking out into the aisle. They weren’t very happy when the conductor asked them to leave. No idea what they said but I heard “gaijin” and “baka” 😂
