@enriquerickyjr: Familiar Touch (2024), is a moving drama that follows an elderly woman living with dementia as she adjusts to life in an assisted living community while holding on to the memories and relationships that define who she is. Ruth enters a new chapter filled with unfamiliar routines and changing memories, making each day a quiet journey of adaptation, resilience, and self discovery. As she forms meaningful connections with compassionate caregivers and fellow residents, the film shows that dignity, kindness, and human connection can remain strong even when memory begins to fade. Rather than focusing only on loss, the story highlights moments of warmth, hope, and everyday joy, offering an honest and respectful look at aging and the emotional challenges that come with it. Kathleen Chalfant delivers a deeply praised performance that brings authenticity and compassion to a character navigating one of life's most difficult experiences. Familiar Touch has been recognized for its thoughtful storytelling and sensitive portrayal of dementia, making it a powerful and emotionally resonant drama about love, identity, and finding comfort through connection. #familiartouch #drama #film #dementia #indiefilm

My dad is currently in this phase. He was a neurologist for 50 years and treated others with dementia. Now he has it and constantly fights me by saying he’s a neurologist and would know if he had dementia.

so i used to be a cook in a care/nursing home and whenever a patient with dementia/alzheimers mistook the dinning hall for a restaurant I always played along and would tell them that their meals were already comped and not to worry about it. some of them had fake money so they could "tip" us. we did everything we could to help make their lives feel more independent and some what "normal"

As someone who takes care of people with dementia.. I’d rather just go out on my own terms then be trapped in my own mind.

My mom is in a place like this. One day she called me and said… I’m here in what I guess is an old folks facility. I see people with wheelchairs but nothing is wrong with me so it must be my mind. I was not prepared for the reality that my mom would be completely gone, to the point of not remembering my visits, but also aware of what was happening….

playing along is so much kinder in these situations - "they're on the house" instead of "that's not how this works" would be a lot less confusing for someone suffering with dementia

I cared for my mom with Alzheimer’s until she passed. Now I care for my last elder family member with dementia. A kind lie goes a long way. Try not to correct what they can’t think through.
