over the course of 2.5 years, I blew a shameful $60k+ on prop firm challenges. here's the expensive reality of what i learned (and how I became profitable): 1⃣ oversizing is the fastest way to lose an account. prop firm drawdown rules are not built for "big" size, especially those with trailing drawdowns. keep it small and stick to micros instead of minis. i now only trade 1 micro for every 1k drawdown. 2⃣ trading is a biological war, not a strategy or mental one. (my biggest & life changing lesson!!!) after the 300th "account blown" email, i realized the problem wasn't my technical edge or mindset. it was my biology. when you’re in a losing trade, your body triggers a "fight or flight" response. your prefrontal cortex (the thinking brain) shuts off, and your amygdala (the survival brain) takes over. that's the trance like state in which you watch yourself break all rules, unable to stop. to master trading, you have to understand the biological drivers behind your behavior. i now use a nervous system routine and specific biohacks during my sessions to ensure i stay in control and out of survival mode. 3⃣ passing the challenge isn’t the hardest part. i passed challenges easily and then blew funded accounts within hours or days. once it felt like “real money,” i put massive pressure on myself. i traded from fear, which messed with my execution. i now put extra attention on my pre-market prep and nervous system routine. 4⃣ focus on one account/prop firm. i used to trade multiple accounts or prop firms at once, thinking i could make big money fast. all it did was add pressure, stress, and guilt. i learned to focus on one, get that to a payout, and build from there. 5⃣ trading can turn into gambling (if you aren't careful). the dopamine hit from a winning trade is neurologically identical to hitting a jackpot on a slot machine. if you are trading for the "rush" or to "fix your life" quickly, you aren't building a career - you are chasing a chemical high. i blew hundreds of accounts because i became addicted to the possibility of the win. 6⃣ stop chasing "max payout" or “min trading days” i used to try to finish challenges in minimum days. i stopped counting the number of times i was just $100 away from finishing my account only to blow it trying to "force" the last few dollars. focus on trading the setup, not the pnl. the moment you start trading for a specific dollar amount, you stop seeing the market clearly. 7⃣ don't compare yourself to others. i spent years comparing my chapter 1 to someone else's (fake) chapter 20 causing me to oversize or take more trades just to proof to myself, that I can make big money too. comparison is the fastest way to ruin your chances of making it as a trader. i learned to take it one step at a time and appreciate the progress i make. #tradingforbeginners #propfirms #daytrading #tradingmindset #femaletrader
