@sellanythingonline: This cafe is closing down and here are the reasons. It’s tough out there for small businesses. Increasing costs, taxes, fees, raw marerial prices. It’s not easy. Go and support local businesses where you can. Sad to see another beautiful business bite the dust #businessowner #SmallBusiness #businesscontent #businessnews

This creator is biased. I own a business and I’d be embarrassed to blame workers wages on my business going under. We’re under many instances of financial pressure but why is it always blamed on the worker. Maybe having the 4th coffee provider on the block doesn’t work. Our businesses can’t survive just by underpaying staff. If I can’t bring in the money necessary perhaps my dream isn’t viable right now.

What I don’t get is - twelve people applied to take over the lease and they approved one who’s going to be another cafe!? I feel like hospitality is a story of hope over history - each owner thinks they can turn it around or make the business profitable.

I've been a barista for 15 years, I've asked for permermet part time, but 90% of the time I'm offered casual. As a permanent employee I get almost $10 less an hour, but I like being permanent (as you qualify for home and car loans ect compared to casual). I don't know much about the wages ect but would it be better for businesses to hire less casuals and more permanent as were cheaper per hour?

So change selling prices of products. Wages have not grown at a rate even marginally similar to inflation. A few small businesses closing is worth it if it means it’s harder for corporations to exploit their workforce.

Your video rubs me up the wrong way, I feel like you are overemphasising workers wages and super, but only briefly talk about rent, electricity and credit card surcharges. It’s the large corporations who are benefitting here, not small business or workers.

as a small business owner, I can feel the weight of this. Even just last week I saw an increase on goods from a dollar to 3 dollars, now the surcharges are gone for cards. We need support too ya know 🥺

Yet big business can underpay their workers get cheaper rents and costs. And the big supermarket chains are offering tea and coffee. Amazing times.

Without workers who can afford to 'go and buy something from them' there is no small business.

They seem to understand their costs. Do they understand that increase costs is not a bad thing, if they typically add 160% on all costs for example the more costs rise the more money they make. Put your prices up easy! Guaranteed price increases on their products won’t hurt trade unless there is other issues.

Small business tax is mental. The amount we pay in tax is astronomical and the government is doing absolutely nothing about it

I feel for small businesses like this but also going to a cafe was a luxury growing up, now they’re everywhere. People are use to going to them daily & probably can’t afford to as much. We use to grab coffee daily from a local cafe, beautiful customer service but the coffee was inconsistent so we bought a coffee machine.

It’s really sad to see because I love having a cafe down my road. It doesn’t get that much business but it’s a 3rd space, it makes the area more of a community. If we keep letting this happen all that will be left are automated services or large chains - how dull would that be
