@burbnbougie2025: "Just saw a post that said "Apparently ADHD men offloading their executive function onto their wives is why doctors thought people grew out of ADHD"."
lol I’m audhd woman and pretty much concluded this on my own based on my experiences. Disabled men are assisted and accommodated for their disability; disabled girls get taught to manage and fix their disability in order to navigate their lives. Anyways, that’s why I married the most generous man ever and I offload my executive function on to my husband.😁

It’s funny that the ADHD subreddit went off on a tangent about money rather than talking about the studies on men 😭😂

I remember being diagnosed with ADHD young. To the point that now looking back I must of been really bad off bc girls were not commonly diagnosed back then. My mom decided the doctor didn’t know what they were talking about. Believed a source that told her I’d grow out of it. After college was diagnosed again but was told I was high functioning and nothing more was medically needed. Again my mom would tell me that I shouldn’t worry she knew lots of people who had it and were very successful they just needed a tribe of people around them to help. Her examples were all men who had secretaries , assistants. She never once considered the world wouldn’t give me that kind of grace and expect me to do it all myself. Going raw dog now for 40 years…..

Me and my husband both have ADHD, I’m treating mine with meds and he is not. They’re completely right that money makes a difference. My husband covers down the chores that I hate (dishes and laundry), I basically handle household inventory and grocery shopping. We do a mixes of frozen foods to make meals or cook easy meals. When I’m gone (rare), he eats out a little more. When he’s gone, I sometimes pay someone to do my laundry. I also have a maid every two weeks and make it once a week when he’s gone. Being able to outsource has been a huge boon for me to focus on my mental health.

This is why I’ve started outsourcing … as if I had a wife. And my life improved DRASTICALLY, even financially despite spending more. Now I get deliveries on schedule: groceries, laundry, a cleaner, I keep talking to my doctor, my dentist, I’ve started to try to get a better job .. even if it’s different from my normal career because money! (I’m an architect and going to change to construction management ). Direct result of this refit thread. We need “wives”… maybe I can get a robot soon!

Based on what a medical professional said to me, people with ADHD grew up and developed coping mechanisms, so they thought they had grown out of it. Men offloading their executive function to women would be a coping mechanism 🤦♀️I worked with a guy who clearly had it (his grownup son got diagnosed while we were working together) and he admitted that his previous job had allowed him an assistant.

Spoke to a guy with ADHD who said that he can't remember to take his inhalers unless his wife tells him..... I asked if he could put it next to the sink so he could take it before brushing his teeth..... said he struggles with brushing daily

My brother was diagnosed in 2007 at 13, they legit told my mother he just needed a wife and her job was to get him to that point. 2026 and he cannot read 🙃

ADHD and autism are different but I see similar issues with autism men (I am an autistic woman) where a lot of problems they have or what people let away with is just straight up misogyny and sexism.

This is so true, and I would add they are aided at work as well. I have a sales rep who cannot stay organized, find documents on his own computer or remember deadlines, and he outsources it all to his underlings. It’s infuriating.

the fact that they thought ADHD vanished at some that means their wife does way more for them than their mom right

executive dysfunction was one of the first symptoms i saw from my mothers dementia, and my dad would get so annoyed at her, but i was like that's literally what you've been saying the entire time !! you never tracked anything

My ex and i both have ADHD. Him managing is offloading everything to me including when to renew his car registration and insurance, and paying the bills. So when his license got suspended he expected me to drive him to work! It was hell because any time something went wrong hed blame his ADHD. I told him bitch I have ADHD too. I found out 5 years ago and hes known for at least 10 years he has it. No system. No care. Just uses it as a crutch to avoid accountability.

I see this play out in D/s communities all the time. Male Dom offloading a lot of their daily life duties they struggle with due to executive dysfunction onto their subs, usually end up burning out the sub. They tell the burnt out sub they just aren't cut out to be a sub and rinse and repeat with a new one.
