I’m still relatively new to ancestor veneration. And I’ve heard a lot about only calling on benevolent ancestors. But due to Jim Crow and slavery, majority of my ancestors died in vain. And I know this because I do genealogy, listen to oral history, and look at old news reports. My ancestor altar is bigger than a lot I see (mine is a bookcase) so I have a healing station on it, to heal ancestors. It’s more active than my paternal station and my maternal station. Because of my love for family history I get to inherit all the obituaries and other things like that from my cousin (this cousin is older than my grandma so technically uncle), and I’m thinking about having an ancestor room. I’m new to it but my life revolves around ancestry.

i realized this the day of my great grandmother’s funeral. i cried to her urn about a family member accusing me of stealing and the accuser died a month later

Listennnnn my ancestors don’t play about me!!! They’re always working in the background for me even when I haven’t actually asked. The least I could do is keep the offerings coming!!!

I was sitting on the floor in between my working altar and my ancestor altar when I got the phone call that my nephew took an attempted on his life and was in PICU, I let out the most guttural cry ever and started begging everyone and everything to save that boy, and then composed myself enough to light my candles and give offerings before I rushed to the hospital. He lost his eye, but was walking out of the hospital in less than 2 months with total brain function. I’ve never been more certain of my families spirit guides, they worked overtime making miracles happen along side his medical team.

This is what I do! I don’t know them by name yet but I have an alter for them & I greet them & always thank them & tell them I love them. I’m going to give them things to protect them & I’m going to keep asking what they like so I can give it to them 🥹 I love them

Even if you don’t know what you’re doing, you just gotta be sincere. When I first started, I asked for better finances and the next day, literally the next day, there was $40(two $20 bills) in a parking spot I pulled up in when I went to the store. I looked around like “this is a trap” but I accepted the gift and answer from my ancestors like “we heard you. Now go do the work and we’ll bless you even more”. I was about to spend my last $20 on ramen and pasta. That was about a year ago and I am back in school at 38 and on my way to a better job. I’m doing the work and they’ve been blessing me ever since.

i feel like i do this on accident. everytime time my exes hurt me i cried and talked to my ancestors and shortly after they got into a car accident. idk why it always has to do with a car. one had a seizure in the car and the other got his car totaled and no insurance didn’t cover it! and he was the one that got hit!
