If carrying a child will kill you and your husband knows this and still demands you carry a child… please run. If the husband in question is a DOCTOR, run faster. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I’m from the area! The history of Natchitoches is great! And you pronounce it “nak-eh-tish”. It’s a Native American word. The. Christmas festival in the movie is also a real thing and great!

I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of Susan’s parents and her brother. Three months is all the evidence I need that the dude had an affair.

Sally field’s portrayal of grief was absolutely amazing. It makes me cry every single time 😭 that movie taught me so much as a teen going through some shit. Forever grateful he wrote this play, it couldnt have been easy

Susan would have such a different life now with the advances in diabetes management. So sad.

I saw an interview with Robert where he talked about how one time when his nephew was an adult, they found some home movies with his mother. The nephew smiled and said “Oh, so that is what she sounded like.” It was the first time he’d heard her voice since he was a baby.

Hearing that he remarried quickly sounds like he wanted to have someone to raise his kid, so he married her. Glad that she was a good mom.

My mom named me after Shelby because of how impactful this story is. As a kid I hated being named after a character that died (and in my childish opinion for no good reason). Now, as an adult with my own child, I admire the strength Shelby/Susan had knowing this could be how her story ended. Much respect to her brother for keeping her memory alive.

My mom has type 1 diabetes. She lost a baby at 40 weeks when she was 19, and then lost another baby during childbirth when she was 21. Her husband cheated on her and left her for another woman while she was pregnant with her second baby. She got her tubes tied after her second still birth. My brother and I are adopted. My parents have been happily married for 40 years. My mom wouldn't watch that movie, nor would she let me watch it. Still to this day that story makes her angry. She lost two babies because of medical ignorance regarding women with type 1 diabetes.

I loved this movie when I was a kid. When I found out the "why" behind it, idk why but I love it more now as an adult.

It always didn’t sit right with me that he didn’t sit with her while they ended the life support in the movie especially because it’s not like he left her side to go be with their son. He abandoned both of them during that time which was awful countered with the grandma who stayed with her until the very end before rushing to her grandson’s side. 💔

I had no idea this was based on a true story. I loved the movie when I was a kid; now as an adult with grown children of my own, I want to rewatch it with that in mind. Feels like bearing witness, which is something that has great value. Thanks so much for your videos. You share sensitive information with such tact and heart 💜

i watched the movie in the 80s. But now as a mom to a type 1 diabetic, I can't watch it. The fear that lives inside because of this disease is true raw terror.
