The thing that I don’t understand is why are they leaving it like that…… why are they not zooming out to create black bars on the side of the screen so that we can actually see more of the height….. LIKE COME ON!! CAN WE PLEASE USE SOME SURFACE AREA MATH!!!! PLEASE…………. I do not need it to stay wide wide wide wide wide screen…… zoom out like 30-40%…. Genuinely most of us probably won’t even notice

Yall it’s not his fault this aspect ratio is a thing. 70mm has BEEN around. It’s an OLD aspect ratio. Some iterations going back to 1920. I think Nolan wanted to respect film as a CRAFT something this modern world we’re living in moved away from. Why is there a conspiracy about everything.

I think if anything, Nolan is trying to push theaters to boost the experience of seeing a movie in the theater, so people will prefer to see movies on a big screen rather than waiting for them to be on a streaming service at home. If theaters don’t want to go completely out of business, offering viewings like this is a great way to save themselves. Seeing a movie on a big screen was common ordeal when something came out, then stopped when Covid hit. I miss those outings, but if the experience is the same I’d have at home with a normal screen, on my own comfy couch, why would I spend $15+ going to a theater, you know?
