I am considering closing my TD bank account and switching everything to Wealthsimple, which is where I hold my investments and emergency fund. The only thing stopping me is my TD credit card because it builds credit and Wealthsimple cards do not. If Wealthsimple gets credit cards that build credit in the future is it best to never cancel credit cards and just pay them off and cut them up? I'd love a video on advice for cutting out big banks totally. As always, thanks for your content!

Scotia passport is good but it has a high maintaining balance to get the card for free. Wealth simple is the best to withdraw cash abroad specially japan.

I moved to td this year, they pay 2% up to 5k to move your money.. I moved 250k 3 times, made 15k :) and got a td preferred credit card with the 590 fee waived

Slowly but surely, sometimes times well to take advantage of transfer promotions (3% over time for some) I’ve been moving our accounts from big bank to WealthSimple. Not perfect, but improving all the time; don’t seem to get punished for using my money-either by number of transactions or by keeping less in the account(s)!

So genuine question. You talked about moving savings money to wealthsimple and buying simple ETF’s that generate more compounding than high yield savings accounts. Makes sense. Can you do this by JUST opening a savings account with wealthsimple? Not a TFSA? We have our emergency/rainy day fund in Scotia making anywhere from 1-4 percent (depending how long we keep it there without touching). I’d be happy to move it to wealthsimple, but I didn’t know we could do this with just simple savings accounts. Am I understanding wrong?

Scotia Alex gold has no FX fees and it’s 5% or 6% back in groceries (depending on store) and 5% for dining / entertainment.

PC Financial, now owned by EQ Bank, offers a free no-foreign-exhange bank account. Interac transfers are free. They even have bank machines at Shoppers/Pharmaprix nationwide.
