Fareed asked for my father's phone number so he could get to know me with his permission. After hearing that he was from a different culture, my father instantly rejected him. Fareed was a new Muslim at the time and was still learning about the deen, so he respected my father's decision, stopped contacting me, and continued strengthening his faith. Two years later, he reached out again and asked if he could meet my family in person. My family agreed with hesitation. He came to our house, and after hours of conversation, they still turned him down. It wasn't because he was a revert or from a different culture. They were simply afraid of what other people would say. But Fareed never gave up. Even though he lived in a different country, he kept showing up at my doorstep. He would book flights just to come and speak to my family, hoping they would change their minds. He learned my language, learned how to cook our traditional dishes, and even built a water well in my mother's name. After seeing all of his efforts, my family became convinced that he was a good man with sincere intentions because, at the end of the day, the only thing that truly mattered to them was my happiness. I didn't want to live the same life everyone around me expected. I've always had my own opinions and fought for what I believed was right, even if it upset my family at times. They were only worried about me and wanted what they thought was best, but they couldn't see what I saw. So I kept trying to help them see the kind of person Fareed truly was, because I knew how hard he had fought just to be with me. If you're going through something similar, don't lose hope. People may say no. Doors may close. But if Allah has written something for you, no one can take it away. And if He hasn't, no amount of chasing will bring it to you. Trust His plan. What is written for you will always find you 💕
