@exposrapp: Consumer Reports just tested 52 rice products from store shelves. Arsenic was detected in every single sample. Not some. All 142 samples. A separate study by Healthy Babies Bright Futures tested 145 rice samples — arsenic in 100% of them. Over 25% exceeded the FDA’s own safety threshold for infant rice cereal. Four toxic heavy metals were found: arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead. There is no safe level of exposure to inorganic arsenic. It’s a Group 1 human carcinogen. Rice absorbs 10 times more arsenic than any other crop because it’s grown in flooded fields where the element leaches from soil into water and enters through the roots. Brown rice averages 113 ppb of inorganic arsenic — white rice averages 72 ppb. A 2025 Lancet study found that rice grown in hotter conditions absorbs even more — meaning climate change is making the problem worse. The FDA has set an arsenic limit for infant rice cereal only. There is no federal limit for arsenic in the rice you eat every day. Consumer Reports asked the FDA about its plans to set one. The FDA did not respond. Scanned on the Exposr app
