Gonna keep this all extremely vague because idk what SJM series have been read yet: there’s another character that was able to sense a bond between two characters and this character has been compared to Rhys a lot and so my theory is that Rhys can sense/see the bond between Azriel and Gwyn, which is one of the reasons why he’s so against Azriel perusing Elain

Omg thank you. I literally just had someone reply to a comment and tell me that Azriel’s shadows disappearing around Elain is a good thing because he’s more human without them. The Elriel’s want it so bad, they’ve changed their whole characters to work together 😭

Tbh I think Rhys reaction to the Elain, Az, and Lucien situation is valid. Remember Rhys was witnessing his own mate love another man. So his response about the mates situation may just be triggering his own feelings about Feyre and Tamlin. However, what i genuinely believe to be most true about this encounter with Az is that he asked Az what his plans were for Elain and Mor. Rhysand has already witnessed Az having unrequited feelings for an “unattainable” female (unattainable being a word Az would describe about his worthiness of Mor). Rhysand didn’t step into that situatationship ever, and that has lasted Azriel for 500 years. Now Rhysand is recognizing Elain’s struggle with Greyson and how much stress that placed on his mate, so it very likely he doesn’t want Azriel to do a Mor 2.0 with Elain. Which would probably impact his own relationship with Feyre. Also, we keep forgetting that Rhysand is very much aware of Lucien’s heritage and that he is a high lord. Rhysand has said before that Lucien is a viable heir to the Day Court and truly is a cunning (he said that to Feyre very early on in the series). I think Rhysand is not necessarily trying to make choices for Elain, I think he is trying to get Azriel to think about why he is pursuing Elain or why Azriel feels unworthy to actually take action. Maybe because Az needs to first work on himself (to believe he is worthy of love) before pursuing another situationship like with Mor).

I think Rhysand reacted bad because of all the situations he has on his plate with the baby and Beron stuff but also because he has been in Lucien’s shoes. Also Rhys knows that Lu wouldn’t call the rite but Beron definitely would like Azriel “taking” Elain from Lu is a perfect excuse for war to Beron considering his laws about mates in his court. Also there’s the whole real parent thing with Lu. How would Helion react to that plus the Elriel situation? 2 things Rhys is hiding from him. Then we have Jurian and Vassa like from what we’ve seen she’s explosive and young and Lu is her friend. For Rhys that situation is a bomb specially because El and Lu haven’t talked about what will they do

Rhysand's reaction felt valid to me 😅 He was in a situation similar to Lucien not long ago, so he can sympathize with him. He's also watched Azriel yearning for Mor for hundreds of years without doing anything about it. Just wondering why the mating bond hadn't snapped into place. Now he's doing it with Elain. Rhysand is not shy about playing the villain in order to protect his loved ones and the people of Velaris. I have no doubt that Rhys had his reasons for acting the way he did in the bonus chapter. Hopefully we'll learn soon why 😅
