DONT BUY STEEL WOOL FOR CLEANING THE IRON TIP. instead buy brass wool. and not brass coated iron wool. do not buy brass wool from aliexpress. you will get iron wool with a brass coating. it needs to be made of brass. iron wool will damage the iron coating on thw tip of your soldering iron. also dont use wet sponges either, those also damage the tips. if you have bought brass wool make sure its actually brass by using a magnet. real brass is not magnetic while iron is.

If you're starting out, and need a portable iron instead of a station, I highly recommend get the fnirsi hs-02a instead of the pinecil. It uses standard c245 tips instead of pinecils proprietary tips. Also if you order solder from aliexpress you will need to buy flux, the solder is cheap and tends not to flow easily without it. And never buy copper or bronze wool from aliexpress, they are almost always fake and will destroy your tips.
