It sound weird but a lot of them were just desperate to get out whatever the cost. The reasons why my parents didn't move to the Netherlands or the USA are what you woudn't expect either. As soon as they found a country they could move to, it was go time.

My dad was in college in Mexico, his parents had a nice house in a big city, & his older siblings were college grads making good money. I asked him so why did you come here? He said he came bc his friend wanted to come & he was bored. He legit crossed the border through the rio grande for shts & giggles. I always feel so embarrassed when people talk about how their parents sacrificed a lot coming over for a better life & my dad came outta boredom! 😭😭😭

Do you realize how important this Soviet Union was for African struggle against colonialism? The amount of resources Africans received from the Soviets and they struggle against Colonial powers like Britain? There’s a reason why so many Africans have a great view of Russia to this day.
