Honey, I know it's a tough decision but a G tube isn't permanent. It will help her immensely! You can still attempt the bottle.

As a Picu nurse, I’m a bigggg proponent of trachs and g tubes. Both can be temporary, and I’ve seen kids SOAR after getting them placed. It helps their body fight what they need to fight without having to use extra energy!!

My husband had a G-tube for 6 months after his grade 2 TBI. I know it is scary but if it helps at all, it was such a relief for me that he was able to get the nutrition he needed. And swallowing practice doesn’t have to stop! You can keep working with her. This is not a failure, it’s hopefully just temporary to ensure she can have the best shot at recovery. Sending you love!

G tube sounds scary but it was our ticket out of the NICU. No neuro issues for our girl but she got it placed at 6 weeks old and got it out at 1yo. It was so nice to just be home and she got the tube out of her nose which helped. We didn’t want to have to do any of that either but we’re so grateful she had to keep her growing and strong!

Getting the G tube will give her the nutrition and most importantly the ENERGY to practice bottle feeding! It can be temporary and they will continue to work on bottle feeding 🫶 I know it is off putting, but for most of my patients it is very beneficial in the long run.
