That’s because a lot of them are immigrants or first gen Americans and are very very grateful that they are here

a lot people will laugh and make asian jokes being asian themselves because they’ve internalized that racism and think they’re not the ones being laughed at 😔

Passive aggressive micro aggression almost always has plausible deniability. “I didn’t mean it that way.

some of the men in this comment section being weird af and writing comments about “oxford study” and making fun of her physical appearance instead of the very valid argument she’s posing is also a big reason why many AA, esp AA women, are afraid to speak up…yall r weird

Honestly, as long as the person isn’t physically harming you, limiting your chances and disrupting your life due to racism then just move on with your day.

That’s bc we’re passive but that’s not our fault. We need to just call micro aggression racism

Honestly, I truly believe it’s ignorance and because it doesn’t impact them! Ignorance is bliss. I see it around me and I’ve set boundaries and it doesn’t go anywhere, so I’ve decided to continue to put space between people for my own mental wellbeing.

is it bc there's a lot of infighting w/in the aapi community? like between chinese and taiwanese, hong kong; japanese and koreans, chinese, filipino(?); indian and pakistani; viet, s.asian, hawaiian, etc. and e.asians. i mean the black & latin communities have their own problems among subcultures but generally come together against a common enemy when one is being oppressed

Totally agree! I’m 55 and I’ve been very vocal all my life, especially being the only Asian in my school. I’m soooo tired. So many ignorant people 😩

YES YES YES. It's past time to speak up & fight for yourself. Past time to stand up to bullying and racist microagressions.

From what you’re saying being an 80s kid…it’s at least much better. It was dangerous being Asian in the Midwest in the 80s. We moved here when Vincent Chin was murdered

Can’t agree more. I’m learning German language/culture lately, and I would prob never be that straight forward, but practicing being in the middle between the two cultures seems to be a good balance to me.

I think there’s also a disconnect between generations if you’re first or second gen Asian American. Sometimes immigrant parents don’t understand the context and depth of racism and the weight that even “small” microaggressions carry.

Try living in my shoes. As a half Hawaiian and Asian, adopted by white parents in middle of white American.
