A police officer's "cop intuition" led him to write down Charlie Kirk murder suspect Tyler Robinson's license plate number during an interaction on campus hours after Kirk was shot, according to testimony in Robinson's preliminary hearing. David Hull, an agent with the Utah Department of Public Safety, testified that an officer with the Spanish Fork Police Department realized he'd interacted with Robinson after learning that a vehicle linked to Kirk's killing matched the description of a vehicle he saw on the Utah Valley University campus about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2025. Kirk was shot at 12:23 p.m. on Sept. 10. Hull said Officer Wyatt Goforth's "cop intuition" indicated "there was something about the interaction that made him make a note of the license plate of the vehicle, and then subsequently, when information was available that that vehicle, or a vehicle matching the description of that, was involved in the incident." "He ran the information that he had obtained from the start, and was able to identify that it was registered to Mr. Robinson, and he had, in fact, had contact with Mr. Robinson on the morning of Sept. 11, 2025," Hull testified. Goforth searched a partial plate number and identified the owners of the vehicle as Robinson and his mother, Amber Robinson. "Did he say anything about the person that he actually interacted with?" asked David Strughill, section chief of the Utah County Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit. "Yes. It was a male that he believed to be Tyler Robinson," Hull said. Judge Tony F. Graf Jr. is allowing the hearsay testimony under rule 1102 of the Utah Rules of Evidence, which allows for reliable hearsay in preliminary hearings. You can watch all testimony on my YouTube channel and Facebook page. The hearing continues tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST in Provo, Utah. Court is not in session in the morning. Robinson, 23, charged with seven crimes: aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony; two counts of obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies; two counts of tampering with a witness, third-degree felonies; and a misdemeanor count of violence committed in the presence of a child. #law #court #crime
