you guys are totally being oblivious to the point she’s trying to make, i’ve been no contact w my mother and step father for almost 3 years now, and it has not been easy and relaxing. it’s devastating that i have to protect my sanity by removing them from my life but it’s also rewarding to not have to deal with them anymore

It’s pretty normal. Being related means practically nothing; you didn’t choose them for their ideals, their morals, their beliefs, their behaviors or actions. They were just there. If they are bad for you they’ve got to go, the people you do choose are much more important.

When you talk to people who cut off family they may talk about it like it’s casual because for them they have gotten over it because they had to deal with years off abuse of some sort. It’s with the healing process.

Am I crazy or are some of the reasons people cut their parents off not cut off worthy. I cut my parents off because they were drug addicts that wouldn’t get help but I see some people on here say they cut their mom off because their mom yelled at them in an argument like??? 😭 I guess if it hurt them a lot then fair enough but sometimes people jump straight to cut off when it could be solved with simple communication.

because it's not really devastating or abnormal when you have already cut them off in your mind first. because it's really easy to just stop caring about abusive people. and once you stop caring about them there's really no reason to keep them around

The tone may come off as casual but I think people are just coping. There’s no easy way to say that and it’s honestly something so difficult you can do nothing about except accept it.
