@mariaisms: I was scrolling on Tt and someone said this was "Sad Girl" art, along with a few others, and I couldn't stop thinking about it: our human obsession with capturing feelings in art. I read the poem and dissected it way before I ever saw the art. I forget now what we discussed in that tiny English Literature classroom, but I left feeling melancholy after this poem. You may forget most of the words of a poem, but somehow, you never forget how you felt after reading it. I remember some themes were about choosing to create vs. live in the world; from a feminist perspective, women's freedom. Does a creative life take away from fully living? What does our art cost us?
