This was 10 days before I gave birth in 2023 to our 3 little. When I tell folks I know my body, capabilities and don’t just try stuff I do, this is what I mean. I had the privilege (because I do recognize that, even in a marginalized body) of moving my body through 3/4 pregnancies and 1 of those pregnancies was a short experience. I have moved my body through 4 VERY different postpartum periods—and I’m still in the midst of the 4th one. When I say THANK YOU, BODY, I think of the moments I couldn’t move like this, didn’t have the desire to, and the times I didn’t even want to live this life at all anymore. Through every joy, storm, loss, triumph and continued layers of grief—my body, this journey, this practice, it’s all still here for me. Funnily enough—I get this from MY mother. She taught me what being present meant and that yoga is good for the mind, body and spirit at 12 years old. Besides bonding with her the handful of times we watched her tape recordings of an older white lady on PBS, I never knew that this practice would greet me in postpartum motherhood 12 years later. That it would be the very thing helping me keep my ground through the various stages of motherhood and life in general. As long as I choose to show up, it’s here for me. Ever present and ready to support me. My body is doing that, too. How blessed am I that even when I’ve treated her less than she deserved, she is still here with and especially without my help! To be a fat, Black woman giving birth in America and LIVE! I give thanks! I hope that every birther takes a moment to reflect not only on the challenges of this ‘hood but of the amazingness of it all, too. And for those who are grieving loss in either direction, be it child, mom, relationship bc of no contact or what you wish you could’ve had instead—I see you and hold space for you in mind and body 🫂🙏🏾🤍 Happy Mother’s Day y’all. #Journey2Antoinette #BlackYogaTeacher #yogamom #fatyoga #pregnancyreel
