A letter to my sisters There is something I want to share with both of you. For the past eighteen months, since moving to Hawaiʻi, I have been writing. What began as quiet morning reflections from my lanai overlooking the Pacific has slowly become something I never expected. It has become a memoir. I never sat down with the intention of writing a book. In many ways, Hawaiʻi gave me the space to finally hear my own thoughts. The slower pace, the ocean, the solitude, and the distance from everything familiar allowed me to begin putting words to experiences I had carried for a lifetime. At first, I was simply journaling. One story led to another. One memory connected to another. One lesson revealed another. Some mornings I wrote about the sunrise. Other days I wrote about grief, healing, motherhood, forgiveness, relationships, and learning who I was becoming. Eventually I realized I wasn’t simply recording my days. I was recording my life. As I continued writing, I realized something else. None of our lives happen in isolation. The people we love become part of our story, and that means both of you naturally appear throughout these pages—not because I’m trying to tell your stories, but because you have always been part of mine. There are chapters filled with laughter. There are chapters filled with heartbreak. There are chapters that acknowledge difficult parts of our childhood and the different paths each of us has walked. And there are moments, like our day together on Nikiski Beach in the summer of 2021, that remind me how precious sisterhood can be. When I look at that photograph of us wearing Alaskan clay masks, searching for agates, and laughing into the wind, I don’t see three women pretending life was easy. I see three sisters choosing joy for one beautiful afternoon. As I continue writing, I want you to know my heart. This memoir is not about blame. It is not about exposing anyone. It is not about defining our lives by the hardest things we’ve experienced. It is about telling the truth of my own journey—with honesty, compassion, and respect. I also know that each of us remembers life through our own experiences. Where our stories intersect, I will always do my best to write with care, recognizing that my perspective is mine, and yours is yours. My hope is that when someone closes this book, they won’t simply remember the hardships. They will remember resilience. They will remember healing. They will remember that even after life’s deepest valleys, people can still laugh, love, rebuild, and keep walking. I wanted you to hear this from me before the book is ever finished because I love you, and because you’ve each been part of the story that shaped my life. With all my love, April #MemoirInTheMaking #Sisterhood #HealingJourney #TruthAndHealing #AprilMudrick
