@ladyspinedoc: Replying to @Steppenwolf Case Study 239: Abdominal Aortic Dissection causing paralysis The aorta is your body’s main pipeline. Its wall has three layers, and a dissection begins when the inner layer tears, letting blood surge into the wall and split it apart - creating a “false channel.” As this tear extends down into the abdominal aorta, it can shear off or block the small segmental arteries branching from it. Those tiny branches feed the anterior spinal artery - often through a critical vessel called the artery of Adamkiewicz. This single artery supplies the front two-thirds of the spinal cord, the part that drives movement. Cut off its blood supply, and the cord infarcts within minutes to hours. Note: the infrarenal stent is for illustrative purposes only. Educational content only - not a substitute for medical evaluation. #SundayCaseStudy #Neurosurgery #AorticDissection #AnteriorCordSyndrome #ladyspinedoc
