The first solo album to put four singles into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough started as a melody he was humming in the kitchen - he wrote it himself and it went to number one. When the Grammy nominations came out he was largely overlooked, confined to a single R&B category. He told his manager it wasn’t fair and that next time he’d make an album they couldn’t ignore. The next album was Thriller.
