I consider myself the bad guy. if everyone considers themselves the hero of their own story, then I want to be the opposite of that so I can distance myself from all that.

I'm grappling with the idea of a punishing God right now - I think the idea that we punish ourselves for our mistakes in the afterlife/spiritual realm is basically where the idea comes from. I haven't been active "enough" in making moves towards the life that I wanted and now I'm having terrible dreams (interactions in spirit) that feel like hell/punishment. But when I came across the spiritual teachings years ago that resonated with me, the talk was of unconditional love, forgiveness, and the idea of a punishing God being archaic and a misinterpretation from the twisted lens humans have looked at the universe through for millennia now.. what are your thoughts? you seem to relish in the idea that if someone does something wrong or selfish that they get punished for it. I don't even want the people who SA'd me as a child to be punished (though knowing they reckoned with themselves and found loving self understanding & forgiveness would be nice to know), let alone myself for not taking enough action despite the fears I've been contending with to get to where I am and to have made the moves that I have so far. I prefer the idea of a loving universe through & through.
