Bibi Umme Rubab (S.A.) suffered great heartbreak during the tragedy of Karbala when she lost both of her children, her six-month-old baby Ali al-Asghar (A.S.) and her young daughter Bibi Sakina (A.S.). On the day of Ashura, her baby son was very thirsty, so Imam Hussain (A.S.) took him to the battlefield to ask for water. Instead of getting water, the baby was martyred by an arrow while in his father's arms. After this, Bibi Umme Rubab (S.A.) and the rest of the family were taken as prisoners to a dark, roofless dungeon in Damascus (Zindan-e-Shaam). Inside this harsh prison, her daughter Bibi Sakina (A.S.) also passed away from intense grief after seeing the severed head of Imam Hussain (A.S.). After losing her husband and both of her children, Bibi Umme Rubab (S.A.) spent the rest of her life in deep mourning. When the family was finally freed from prison, she returned to Medina and refused to ever marry again out of respect for Imam Hussain (A.S.). She lived for only about one year after Karbala, spending her days crying and remembering her family.
