As a History teacher, I agree with you. Acknowledge history, but there’s no point in a shared guilt experience, you are correct. It’s also important to note the ‘Irish Slave Myth’ though. This is peddled by some people to say that the Irish were slaves also, they might have been badly treated, but they were indentured servants who, once they’d served their time, were then free - they were not chattel. I’m Irish by the way.

People also forget black people sold their own people to the white men there was recently a woman talking about this and she did a heritage check and she was also related to slave owners but was black herself- slavery is still an ongoing issue but not in the ways of black and white segregation times
