Olivia Rodrigo has repsonded to the backlash surrounding her babydoll dress that she wore while performing in Barcelona. She found it “disturbing” that she was sexualised for wearing something people thought was “childlike” when she’s worn much more “revealing” outfits on stage before and it made no one else uncomfortable. I think she highlights so well the paradox and contradictions women are held to as they’re encouraged to take responsibility for what they’re wearing to prevent men from sexualising them, when that responsibility lies with men. As well as women being encouraged to buy and perform girlhood nostalgia but also criticised for doing so, when our culture is so obsessed with youth and girlhood. What did you think?
