@merrykennedy647: It's late. You're lying there scrolling, and something in you already knows tonight will look exactly like last night. One more clip. Her, then a car, then a fight, then a guy making money, then her again. You're not even enjoying it — you can feel that, somewhere under the thumb. It's more like checking. Checking on lives that have nothing to do with yours, faces you'll never meet, wins you didn't win. And there's that specific heaviness afterward — not guilt, exactly. More like the feeling of leaving a casino at 4am, even though you never left the bed. An hour is gone and there's no one to show it to. Try a gentler read, because beating yourself up has clearly never closed the app: the scroll isn't the disease. It's a symptom with perfect accuracy. You watch other lives in the exact proportion that your own evenings are empty of your own events. The feed took nothing from you — it moved into a vacancy. Something in your day left a hole shaped like ninety minutes, and the phone is simply the nearest thing that fits. Which means 'less phone' was always the wrong target. The fix is one real thing per evening that is yours — built, moved, trained, called, fixed. Not to be productive. To have something of your own in the day, so the vacancy is filled before the feed applies for it. You don't need to delete anything. Just notice, tonight, the exact moment your thumb starts moving on its own. That moment is the door. ... Six years of watching strangers live adds up to one strange fact: somebody out there might be scrolling past your life too. You'd want it to be worth pausing on.
