So while the term electrocution USED to mean that you died because the word is a combination of electric and execution (named as such for things like the electric chair) it's definition has since changed to meaning every electrical injury and or death. I know this because I too used to believe and argue that one had to die for it to be considered electrocution so I looked it up to confirm. it is a modern example of a words definition shifting based on how it's used.

First job ever, I asked the master of 25+ years if he had ever been electrocuted. Said “I got close but not yet” I was like “wow not even on outlets or anything” he said “boy you only get electrocuted once. I’ve been shocked plenty.”

Only if they use OSHAs definition of electrocuted. Real definition says injured or killed

it’s just semantic drift at a certain point. people need to be more flexible about what words mean

People have been using that word incorrectly for so long that the definition has been updated on many dictionaries. Behold the democracy of language.

electrocution does not always equate to death. electricians mistakenly believe that's the case. they're wrong. electrocution means becoming part of the circuit. not death by severe shock.
