Hi I’m from Maine, known for our lobsters and blueberries, our season hasn’t started because it hasn’t gotten hot enough….so no local farmers markets have blueberries. THIS IS CRAAAAAAZY and ILLEGAL for several reasons.

But it’s not just generic clamshells. Those are Driscoll labeled clamshells in a Driscoll box. They are lying through their teeth.

If you can’t provide local fruit. Then why even open the farmers market. Thats the point of going to a farmers market. To buy local. Can’t trust nothing anymore.

Virginia Farm Market is less of a farm stand and more of a store/gift shop really. As a local I’ve never assumed everything there was grown locally, we just don’t have the farms around here to provide such a variety that they carry. Our local farms were hit HARD by frost and many are struggling and are not able to produce crops like they usually do. VFM is fun to browse and they do have cool stuff…they make their apple cider donuts there fresh!

as someone in the farming industry, even if they did use this packaging, it would not have that labelling on it. if they were buying directly from the farmers, there would have to be different labelling because each package gets recorded and verified at the end of the line for product traceability.

So they aren’t an actual farmers market and should change their name. I would definitely show this to your local news station so that others can be aware since I’m sure it is not posted somewhere.

Even if she was outsourcing from like say a high quality farm, they wouldn’t be sending that produce in a branded Driscolls clamshell

The farmers I work with at the farmers markets don’t purchase produce from wholesalers or the grocery stores. They are the source, so if the crop didn’t perform they just tell people that’s why they don’t have it available.

I still believe that it is misleading, unless the packaging clearly states where it is from. Saying that they want to carry what the customers want, is no excuse. Why not let the customers know that that there are no local items for said item. That defeats the purpose of why most shop at farmers markets.

so they upcharge still. and don't let the customer know "these are Walmart Driscoll blueberries, we bought them for $4 a pack and are selling them for $8 a pack"

You need to call your local news station, this is NOT how farmers markets work. If you cannot provide fresh LOCAL produce, then you don’t host a fucking farmers market. Plain and simple. This is dangerous considering we just had a Cyclo. outbreak; you would never be able to track it back to the true source since they’re LYING about the origins of the products they’re selling & promoting as “local”.
