Speaking on The Alfa House Podcast, PLO Lumumba argued that one of the greatest legacies of colonialism was not only the partitioning of Africa’s borders, but also the deep political, economic, and psychological divisions left among African states. He contended that these divisions have often weakened the continent’s ability to act collectively and pursue shared interests. Lumumba also criticized the African Union, arguing that it has not consistently exercised the level of leadership and responsibility needed to foster stronger continental unity and self-reliance. According to his remarks, this has created situations where external actors—including countries such as Qatar and Turkey, as well as major powers such as the United States—often play influential roles in African diplomatic, security, and economic affairs. His central argument is that a continent of more than 54 sovereign nations, with vast natural resources and a population exceeding one billion people, should increasingly shape its own future through stronger regional cooperation, institutional capacity, and unified political will. In Lumumba’s view, Africa’s long-term progress depends less on external intervention and more on African governments and institutions taking collective responsibility for the continent’s development and destiny. #africa #african #panafricanism #africantiktok
