We each have a personal account and a shared account, plus shared savings and investments. If it's for the household we use the shared account. If it's personal, we use our personal account. Whoever is making more at the time puts more into the shared account, but we flip flip on which of us that is, so it works well.

My wife earned more than I did, but we split expenses pretty much 50/50.
It worked fine, because neither of us were skint.
I can imagine more issues arising if one partner is significantly broker than the other though.

For 4. Is it reasonable to have retirement money set aside per individual, or is that combined as well ? RRSP’s can’t be combined?
