I do hate the way people dislike the film because they believe it portrays Lawrence in a “messiah”, kind of light. It does not at all. The film is a patient progression into his internal conflict and identity crisis. He starts off as this curious, intelligent and open-minded boy, and ends the film not knowing what he truly belongs too, who he even is (or meant to be), what his purpose in life is if he even has one, and whether or not he is even deserving of anything good after what he has done. Although it is not entirely historically accurate , I believe they did his character justice, and showed that all internal conflicts can only be fixed by yourself— nobody, regardless of how much they love you, can fix it for you. You must find peace within YOURSELF. He failed to do that, hence him leaving the Desert out of belief that he doesn’t deserve to be there, and that he “hates” it, despite the truth being that he hates himself, and the Desert became a reflection of that.
