@ellesmaddry: Before Wes was born, Daniel and I spent four years working hard to build a relationship that we both loved being in. Each time we would talk about having kids, we would wonder how kids would shift our dynamic. And honestly that was a nerve racking thought. Now that we’re (newly) on the other side, we’re seeing how everything we were prior to having him is still there… just amplified. Which honestly, is great some days and terrifying others 😅 We’re still so new to this and have so much to learn, but it’s also been rewarding to see that everything we worked hard on is still there, and now there’s this little guy who gets to live in the fruit of the hard work we’ve put in toward connection. I’d love to hear from others who have walked this road before us – how did you keep your marriage healthy in those early days with new babies? #motherhood #newborn #marriage #postpartum #firsttimemom

I fully believe this!!! I hear “kids will ruin your marriage” ALL the time, but Im very skeptical. I think kids expose weaknesses and issues that were already there.

First marry a man you looooove and looooves you. Second, You gotta marry a man who wants to be a daddy, not a man who wants kids.

You’re totally right! HOWEVER ur mom brain will take over, you will see things your husband doesn’t see, & you’ll think to yourself HOW DOESNT HE SEE THIS?? & no I’m not talking about stuff all over the place. you’ll ask him “what was ur thought processes during this” -10m PP mom with a really healthy & safe marriage

We’ve waited a long time to have kids and partially for this reason. We’ve been married for 10 years and are so connected. Then my dad passed and the year of intense grief afterwards showed us where some cracks were…but also a lot of strength. He showed up for me in ways I couldn’t have even comprehended before. I’m hoping what we learned from loss will make welcoming new life even sweeter. It’s okay to be disconnected for a little while, as long as you’re both always working towards coming back to center.

I’m sooo glad I went to therapy and we worked on communication before we had a baby. We only had positive change!! Having baby was hard but we leaned on each other

I disagree - we fight less, and more quietly. There’s much more fun and family time and honestly just less time in a day for conflict.

I think resentment is the hardest part. even having a partner who does Everything he can can still feel like not enough, Especially if EBF....because no matter how much he wants to help he cant give her the thing she wants 98% of the time. that frustrates me as the mother And him as the father...but when they do what they Can and they do it willingly, that has to be acknowledged...resentment can build on both sides So fast...it has to be Intentionally avoided.

Girl thank you for this! 2 years married and so in love. I literally said this to him yesterday I was worried about how a child would disrupt our vibe.

Such a good take! My fiancé and I have been together 10+ years and have talked about kids hopefully in the next few. I’m terrified of how the dynamic is going to change since it’s been just us 2 for so long. 🥺 it’s a scary but exciting thought!

I’m a momma to an 8 month old. I was also worried about how the dynamic would shift in my marriage. It made us so much stronger! The main thing I learned, you have to over communicate everything from when the meds were last given, who is doing daycare and swim lessons, packing bags, etc. I fully agree that everything is intensified, so start on a strong foundation!

this made me feel a lot better. my husband and i have been together since we were kids ourselves, we literally grew up together and really enjoy our time spent together. i’ve been so worried that a baby will change that bc as much as we want children, i want us to stay as happy and in love as we’ve always been

100% 👏 I’m soooooooooo happy my husband & I waited. 6 years of building the foundation, we worked through trauma individually, worked on regulating our nervous system. Regulating our emotions through out growing up together ❤️now we have our daughter & it’s been the most beautiful experience & she will be turning 1 in 2 weeks 🥹
