I’m the opposite - do the extracurriculars in high school. She’ll have the rest of her life to work. Yes, take the rigorous classes and study, because academics always come first. But after that, do the activities that only come around when you’re young.

I don’t love this take. Extra curriculars are fun. And definitely important if you are trying to go to a t20. You don’t need to pretend to cure cancer either….sports, scouts, clubs all count. Also both UF and FSU care about them. My daughter also received a “well rounded” scholarship from FSU. And there’s a ton of other scholarships for kids who are involved in ECs.

My daughter went to volleyball cams ALLLL summer so she could try out for the rec league team and 2 weeks before the start of the season she asked if she could play softball instead because two of her friends were playing softball. She had never thrown a baseball or softball before, never hit one, never caught one… but I said sure and she’s played softball ever since. She taught herself to skateboard and play piano, drums and guitar. NHS at school and almost an Eagle Scout. Whatever college she picks will be lucky to get her but she likes the vibe at a small one in FL so that’s where she’ll probably go. 🤷🏻♂️It’s her life, I just suggest things.
