Because communication lacks in relationships. People hold in what they want to say, or if something upsets them about their partner. So it makes it hard for either party to be consistent if they dont know what consistency looks like with out communicating with each other.

Consistency would also require accountability which most aren'tready to face. Also with social media now it seems the next one to give attention is way to easy to find.

I think it's very hard because so many would rather just move to the next one because it's easier than trying to be open, honest and communicate. Also, there is a lot of emotional immaturity which makes it hard for the consistency that is needed to maintain a healthy relationship.
