Tell me WHY when I finally decide to fully record all calls to my insurance company regarding discrepancies between my policy plan benefits and their reimbursement for services, it is the most efficient, helpful, and productive conversation I’ve ever had?? 😩 May be coincidence, but this is something I absolutely will continue to do regardless and here’s why…. An Insurance company’s main objective is to not pay for your medical care. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for providers and patients to get even standard care approved. For me this year has been the absolute worst, with prior authorization and appeals becoming necessary for almost every thing my doctors order, including medications and treatments I’ve been on for years. After going months without one of my vital medications due to improper insurance denial, I’ve learned the hard way what it takes to beat them at their own game. They will deny deny deny. Lie lie lie. And make it as hard as possible to get any type of concrete answer. But what I also learned is persistence is key; they want us to just give up. NOPE. You have the right to initiate an appeal for any prior authorization denial and continue to appeal multiple times up to a federal level. If you feel they’re inappropriately diverting your questions, giving you conflicting or inaccurate information, denying your appeal rights, transferring you multiple times to “lose” the call and have to start over, providing your doctors with inaccurate info, refusing to escalate your concern or file a grievance; recording your conversations may be one of the best ways to preserve your concerns, verify the timeline, and justify the need for outside entities to step in. Depending on your type of policy, there are numerous ways to do this. I know it’s hard, I live it daily, but don’t give up when it comes to your health advocacy. I want to hear what issues you’re facing currently, and if you want more tips and tricks let me know. As a former nurse and professional patient, I have them ALL 😎 (All statements are my personal opinion and experience and is not medical or legal advice) #medicaladvocacy #chronicillnesslife #chronicillnesscommunity #medicalinsurance #spooniesupport
