@the_30_rule: Training employees to handle difficult guests starts with mindset, not scripts. Most businesses teach employees what to say. The best teach them how to think. You never know what someone is carrying. When your team chooses empathy over emotion, they don’t just improve the guest experience. They create moments people remember for the rest of their lives.

I totally agree. The struggle is the ego of both parties involved. Being in ANY service position takes some sort of humility. That’s why many do not succeed or make a career of it. Assholes are always going to be assholes, that’s a character flaw. As a humble person, I’m fine accepting that while still giving an excellent experience.

I follow you because you’re everything I want to teach my staff, however had a 9 min no greet and the same server 28 mins still no drinks on the table. Sometimes people are just in the industry to make bar money, and not care. When I asked what happened the server said don’t call me out in front of my coworkers I said be better. You have 3 fucking tables

In real life that turns an asshole into a regular and that poor server gets stuck with them every time. Great restaurants turn away assholes. It’s hospitality not therapy.
