The two skipper survived because they did exactly what everyone else on those boats should have done. They could have all survived if the fathers were not drunk and could swim. Those two swam with the current and ended up at Baai even though the other Island was close to them. I am assuming others tried swimming against the current trying to reach the nearby island cos they were afraid of being swept out into the open ocean. A complete opposite of what should have been done. Beside panic, all the adults were intoxicated therefore that reduced their chance of survival hence making rational judgement in the midst of chaos. Clouded mind, weak body muscles with poor swimming coordination resulted in possible drowning before they could save their kids. This leaves the kids more panicked and vulnerable and at the mercy of mother nature without any adult to guide them. I can't imagine the pain and panic on their innocent little faces. Poor decisions by the adults resulted in this unnecessary loss of precious lives. If you happen to encounter similar situation don't try swimming towards Tokua or the islands against the current. Slowly float along towards Watom. Dont swim hard and burn yourself out. Slowly kick and drift. Backstrokes can help keep you relaxed and use less energy. Let us not be too ignorant to put on life jackets when going out the sea. Boat service owners must be responsible to provide life jackets for it's individual passenger. Na please, ol lain brata susa stap klostu lo nambis, at least upla mas lainim lo swim. If u can swim u can help your self get ashore.

I was onec a victim at sea too for solid 2 weeks all the way from Manus to Madang but was rescued at Kimbe Bulu Point by Australian Rescue.I know how families and loved once would feel at this point of time but it's all about having FAITH....I was saved because of my faith thefore I encouraged families and loved ones and those missing at sea to keep praying and have faith in God the father.🙏🙏

This is disturbing😭 Am literally crying coz I was a victim who survived 2 nights & one day out in the open sea. Am coastal Raised and my dad is a Operator so I had basic knowledge on how to stay stable & quickly work out a survival plan during situations like this😒 This time I was traveling with my cousins on a different boat when we hit a deadly storm just hours before nightdrop and Luckily everyone were saved because we helped each other hang on to empty Fuel containers and tanks while staying attached to the boat. 😞 I can only imagine how terrified this children were during this moment😭💔 Advice: Whenever you encounter such situation in the open sea, always aim for a empty fuel container or if adult are on board, Prior to completely sinking, gather all the empty fuel containers and tanks & tie them up and stay attached to the boat regardless of where the boat floats!! Prayers for this individuals 🫴❤️🙏
