Can you create a cabin right where you are? I'll tell you what I mean. I think that when people picture a simple, uncomplicated, peaceful life, they often picture themselves in a cozy cabin in a serene part of nature. Maybe you spent summers or vacations at such a place, and remember the retreat it gave you from the hustle and bustle of busy life. It's natural to long for a dreamy little cabin. But I also think you can create some of that feeling right where you are! You don't have to just dream of it. The appeal of a cabin has a lot to do with having a sanctuary, where you can feel content and comfortable and happy. So what are the things missing right this very second that would give you the same thing right where you are planted? A cozy corner or hammock where you can read? A window where you can install a bird feeder and watch birds visit? More separation between work and relaxation time? A small garden in your yard or on a balcony (or going for a walk and getting ideas gif next year’s garden!). Or maybe you really need to plan a few days out in nature.  A lot of people ask what I do when I'm not doing ceramics, and I'm often out in nature, camping or backpacking or kayaking - usually in Lake Tahoe, California which is the place that inspired this little piece. What are some ways that you bring that cozy, peaceful feeling into your world? I create this piece with ceramic clay, rolling it out with a simple rolling pin. I then place the leaves on the clay and roll each leaf into the clay to capture its unique botanical imprint. The leaf that looks like a detailed tiny tree is called Bear Clover and it's a native California plant. When coloring and glazing each piece, my favorite thing is to watch the color magically fill each leaf. It's so mesmerizing and relaxing to do. I hope it feels relaxing to watch it! After glazing the piece, I put it in my  pottery kiln and fire it to very high temperatures to vitrify the ceramic clay and melt the ceramic glaze into a coating of glossy glass. The touch of gold is real 22kt gold.  #satisfying #pottery #watercolor
