The 5 hardest things about training Kung Fu in China 👇 1. Pain. You’re going to be in pain. A lot. Your muscles, your legs, your hands… sometimes muscles you didn’t even know existed. Don’t expect comfort. Expect adaptation. 2. You’re going to suck. I don’t care if you’re flexible, a runner, a CrossFit athlete or a black belt in another martial art. When you start, you’re a beginner. Accept it. Your ego will have a much harder time than your body. 3. It will challenge everything you believe. I used to think faster was always better. Then my Shifu asked me to do the movement… slower. Way slower. And somehow it became ten times harder. Kung Fu teaches control before speed. 4. The culture shock is real. People will look at you. Some will ask for photos. Kids might stare. If you’re obviously not Chinese, you’ll attract attention. In my experience, it came from curiosity, not hostility. 5. Forget comfort. You’re not signing up for a wellness retreat. Your mattress might feel like concrete. The showers might be cold. In winter, the heating can be very limited. The goal isn’t to make you comfortable. The goal is to make you stronger. Would I do it all over again? Without thinking twice.
