Reaching the summit of Mount Everest can take up to 60 days. When people ask how long it takes to climb to 8,848m, the standard answer is two months. But the reality of those two months surprises most people. You aren't actually climbing up the mountain the entire time. A lot of that time is simply waiting for your body to adjust. Here is exactly why it can take up to 2 months to stand on the top of the world: Days 1–12: The Baseline Approach. The journey starts with a trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). This takes over a week to establish a proper foundation for initial acclimatization to the change in altitude. Weeks 2–6: The Rotations. Once at Base Camp, we begin navigating the Khumbu Icefall (the second scene in this video). We don’t just climb straight up. We climb to Camp 1, sleep, and climb back down. Then we climb to Camp 2, sleep, and climb back down. We do this active rotation for a month to allow the body to adapt fully to the thin air. Week 7: The Weather Window. Wind speeds and seasonal conditions dictate the schedule. Teams monitor the weather from Base Camp, waiting for the jet stream to clear and provide a stable window for the upper mountain. Week 8: The Summit Push. When the window opens, it takes 4 to 7 days to move up through the high camps. The final push from Camp 4 (the third scene) to the summit takes 10 to 12 hours of steady climbing before heading back down. Could you survive the mental game of waiting at Base Camp for weeks? Let me know in the comments.👇 #everest #nepal #mountaineering #highaltitude #mountainlife
