i made them!! it took me 2.5 hours to fully cook them after marinating and i think i burnt them because they taste very strongly like caramel and something else that i can't pinpoint. the pan is honestly terrifying to look at, i'm scared to wash it now. i burnt myself several times while making them but that is because i have only very little experience with cooking. they're still cooling down but i tasted a small bit and it's delicious! the consistency is a bit like sugar clumped together with water or syrup, which should be correct according to my mom. they taste burnt but that's ok, i'm very proud of myself for not setting the whole kitchen on fire (only my fingers, they're super hot while cooking please be careful everyone!) thank you very much for this tutorial, it was an exhausting but very fun and rewarding evening!!!

The end product is very much like our watermelon confyt. Our grannies used to make big pots of confyt and hand out to family members but very few people make it today 😔. South Africa. 🇿🇦
